The Awards Banquet for the 2014-2015 Academic year was held at Gladish Community and Cultural Center.
The evening began with a dinner catered by Fireside Grille. Chemistry Graduate Students, Post-docs, Faculty, and Staff all enjoyed the meal while catching up with others in the department.
Faculty who received grants in the past year were then recognized and presented with bottles of wine in celebration for the funds they obtained.
Sam Battey (above) was awarded Teaching Assistant of the Year. A few excerpts from his nominations were: “Sam is a first rate TA and while he does not need the affirmation that what he does is noticed, he does deserve the recognition for all of the work he puts into TAing, for the poise with which he embarks knowledge on a younger generation of scientists, and for genuinely caring about the success of his students.” “Unlike most of us, he looks forward to office hours because his passion is helping students learn about chemistry.” His passion for teaching and his ability to engage students earned Sam this award.
Bo Peng (above) was awarded Research Assistant of the Year. An excerpt from his nomination was: “Bo is in his 4th year; he has co-authored 11 papers, with 4 as the first author. In short, Bo is a dedicated, hard-working, and very productive student.” For his hard work in the lab and his many publications, Bo definitely deserved this award.
